Dying To Know is movie about Timothy Leary & Ram Dass, the era they shaped and their exploration of the next frontier – death.

Narrated by Robert Redford

In the early 1960s Harvard psychology professors Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert began probing the edges of consciousness. Leary became the LSD guru challenging convention, questioning authority and as a result spawned a global counter culture movement. Alpert became Ram Dass, a spiritual teacher for an entire generation teaching service through compassion leading his followers through a collective spiritual transformation. These two very complex and controversial characters danced in, out and through each other’s lives until ultimately Leary’s terminal cancer inspired their final meeting and deep conversation about life, death and the psychedelic explorations that began it all.

More than a conversation between two old friends, DYING TO KNOW explores the arcs of their lives examining how two Harvard professors became counterculture icons – from their early lives to their fateful meeting at Harvard then to Millbrook and beyond when they went their own separate ways. When Leary learned he was dying of cancer, the first person he called was Ram Dass and their lifelong conversation continued – each holding remarkably different viewpoints about death.

The film is a deep dive into the cultural taboos of sex, drugs and death while celebrating a lifelong friendship, a love affair of epic proportions between two unlikely characters that shaped a generation and inviting one to to ponder age-old questions about the great mystery of life called “death”.
