Abby Epstein and Ricki Lake produced the hit The Business of Being Born
that explores the contemporary experience of childbirth. Their next
project, Weed the People, examines the use of cannabis in the treatment
of pediatric cancer.
Abby Epstein is a director and producer, known for The Business of Being Born (2008), Until the Violence Stops (2003) and Sweetening the Pill. She is the director of the feature film Weed the People.
Ricki Lake is an American film actress and television host best known for her starring role as Tracy Turnblad in the original Hairspray and her daytime talk show, Ricki Lake. Her success with Hairspray in 1988 prompted her to move to Los Angeles where she continued her acting career and underwent a tremendous physical transformation. Her talk show debuted in 1993 to phenomenal ratings. It remained on the air for 11 seasons. Ricki returned to the talk show platform in 2012 hosting a second talk show and won an Emmy. With producing partner Abby Epstein, Ricki produced the hit The Business of Being Born that explores the contemporary experience of childbirth in the United States.
