Dr. Susan Block
Dr. Suzy Block is an American sexologist, author, filmmaker, therapist, talk show host, and cultural commentator. She is perhaps best known for her television specials on HBO.
Chosen as one of “America’s Greatest Thinkers” by the Great American Think-Off of New York Mills, Minnesota, Block is the author of Advertising for Love, The 10 Commandments of Pleasure (published in 11 languages) and her acclaimed new book, The Bonobo Way: The Evolution of Peace through Pleasure. She also writes about sex, love, politics and culture in CounterPunch, Alternet, The Ecologist and many other publications, including her own blog and her new social media site. She is also a major contributor to the forthcoming Wiley Blackwell Encyclopedia of Sex.
Married and “monogamish” for over 23 years, Block and her husband Maximillian R. Lobkowicz are renowned for their bacchanalian celebrations. Together, they produce The Dr. Susan Block Show broadcasting live on Internet radio and TV, featuring a wide range of guests, from professors to porn stars. They also present erotic art exhibitions, sex educational salons, group therapy experiences, musical performances and other events at “Dr. Suzy’s Speakeasy” studios in “Bonoboville,” a community of artists and technologists where Block’s philosophy of the Bonobo Way is put to the test on a regular basis.
But she’ll never quit her day job as a sex therapist in private practice at the Block Institute, working with thousands of clients from all over the world, from El Segundo to Saudi Arabia, in person and telephonically, using both conventional and alternative therapy techniques to address various sexual problems and pleasures.
