“…Ultimately that entails feeling drawn into this transcendental,
mystical realm of the self… the profound awareness at the very
core of the mystery…” – Bill Richards.

William Richards

Currently a psychologist in the Psychiatry Department of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, William A. Richards, Ph.D studied with Abraham Maslow at Brandeis University and with Hanscarl Leuner at Georg-August University in Goettingen, Germany, where his involvement with psilocybin research originated in 1963.

From 1967 to 1977, Bill pursued psychotherapy research with LSD, DPT, MDA and psilocybin at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center. His research included protocols designed to investigate psychedelics as a treatment for alcoholism, severe neuroses, narcotic addiction, the psychological distress associated with terminal cancer and their potential use in the training of religious and mental-health professionals.

As part of the team on the new Psilocybin & Cancer project at Johns Hopkins, Bill helped design and served as the primary guide in research that demonstrated a positive correlation between psilocybin and mystical experiences.
